Rochester Deputy Mayor Leonard Redon was ticketed by New York State Police for DWI, speeding, and having an expired inspection on Wednesday night, just before midnight. Redon was stopped by police on the 490 near the Clinton Avenue exit in his own vehicle, according to a news release issued by the City of Rochester.

The release also states that Redon notified Mayor Lovely Warren of the traffic stop at 1 a.m. The two met this morning to discuss a possible resignation. Also in the release, it states the two discussed Redon's newly diagnosed medical condition which may have affected his decision-making, and that Redon will take several personal days to seek counseling from his personal physician.

At a noon news conference, City communications director Christine Christopher said the newly diagnosed condition is diabetes. She also said that Redon offered to resign, but Mayor Warren refused that offer.

Here is Mayor Lovely Warren's statement from the official City of Rochester news release:

"While I am very disappointed in this turn of events and the Deputy Mayor's lapse in judgment, I have accepted his apology. Leonard Redon is a valued member of my team who is doing good work on behalf of the people of Rochester.  I know he is sincerely regretful for the embarrassment he has caused for the city, for me and for himself and will take steps to assure that it never happens again."

"There is an important lesson for everyone here," she continued. "Drinking and driving is never an acceptable choice. It puts everyone in danger," she concluded.
