PAETEC to Lay Off 71 Workers

The Palm Harbor call center will consolidate 71 positions after its acquisition of Cavalier Telephone.

Beginning next month, telecommunications provider PAETEC will lay off 71 workers at the company's Palm Harbor location, according to a notice filed by the company with the state.

A company spokesperson says the move is a result of restructuring after PAETEC's 2010 purchase of Cavalier Telephone.

Seventy-one positions at the company's call center in Palm Harbor will be consolidated with other call centers.

PAETEC also plans to add 40 to 50 positions at the Palm Harbor location. These positions will be in the Business Support Group Division and a call center that helps customers with repair issues.

PAETEC says it is looking to place affected employees in the new positions or elsewhere in the company, if possible. PAETEC's Palm Harbor location is at 2704 Alternate U.S. 19. The company is based in New York and employs 5,000 people in the U.S.
